EVENT: How to Reduce Emissions, Increase Security and Access and Save Money Print E-mail

From next April, organisations with an energy bill of £1m a year or more will be forced to report their energy usage, and to buy carbon credits to cover the resulting greenhouse gases, under a new regulation called the Carbon Reduction Commitment.

Those at the bottom of the emissions reduction league table will forfeit 10 per cent of the sum they paid, while those at the top will have the sum paid returned with a 10 per cent bonus, in order to provide an incentive to improve energy efficiency.

Sun Microsystems developers of the Ultra Thin Client technology and Secure Global Desktop, recently announced the companies reduction of its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from US operations by 23 percent, surpassing its goal five years early. Originally committed to a 20 percent reduction over 2002 levels by 2012, Sun's combination of its workplace innovation and use of energy-efficient technologies and services helped the company surpass its original goal in 2007. Sun also realised a significant reduction in operational costs, including power, accommodation and equipment.

Many organisations around the world have adopted Sun's solution in order to reduce the costs associated with the use of PCs as desktops. The Rural Payments Agency for example, which deployed 4,200 of Sun's Sun Ray UltraThin Client devices in 2007, expects to make electricity savings of £174,000 per annum as well as reducing its carbon footprint by 260 tonnes each year.

If you would like to find out more about how your organisation can achieve the same results or better, then please come along to our seminar on Tuesday the 21st of July at the Marriott Airport Hotel in Manchester, where as a Sun Microsystems Partner we will be presenting more on this subject.
